I noticed on today's news broadcasts that the anniversary of the Christchurch NZ earthquake was marked by the release of butterflies by children. Hopefully they were indigenous species but an appropriate memorial.

There was a piece in last night's Evening Standard - they were Monarchs.

Despite the solemnity of the occasion, I don't think it should have been marked with the release of live butterflies.
