This Butterfly i found..

Hi guys! My Grandad found this butterfly in his horses fields hybernating in a little bin. after long research into looking for what it was my grandad was certain that it was the peacock butterfly . here it is.. http://www.visitwester-ross.com/userfil ... eacock.jpg < Click the link to see the butterfly . they said it was rare and honestly very beautiful. astounded i thought of posting it here . where hopefully you guys can post stuff. Is it the peacock butterfly? rare? ect. Thanks! ,

You are absolutely right - this is a peacock butterfly. It is also a very lovely photograph.

In truth, this is not a rare species throughout most of the British Isles, though its abundance fluctuates and in some years it is scarcer. I hope your discovery of it inspires you to continue looking for butterflies - it is a most rewarding hobby!

PS - It looks as though you released it from its hibernation. I hope it has found somewhere suitable to continue its sleep until its relatives are on the wing.

we found a suitable place for both butterflies to continue with their peaceful hibernation.
