This is part of a series which will hopefully grow throughout the winter until all 58 British species have been covered. Three new threads will be introduced per week. Our overseas friends are welcome to fill in the obvious gaps relating to our rare migrants, but please try to observe the alphabetical listing

Details of places, dates, times and circumstances would be appreciated and please feel free to contribute observations of behaviour, personal encounters, anecdotes and other interesting points.

Hi this is the best photo of a Large Heath Iv got because it rained most of the time I was there. Taken at Whixall Fen near Whitchurch on 29/6 11.

here is one of mine , taken at whixall moss. was a very good year for them.
pity this one had a bit of wing damage!

This photo was taken at Meathop Moss on an overcast July 11th. Stupidly I visited the site wearing ordinary shoes so I couldn't stray far from the board walk without getting wet feet!

Best I could do on the day, nothing wanted to pose for a decent shot. Taken at Meathop Moss.

Mine was very busy nectering on white clover & allowed camera very close. Taken at Crowle moor, I like the little insect on the clover as well. Eric
