Taken in the south of France in April this year.
A beautiful reminder of an excellent trip.

That is an excellent photo,Roger and it will be very hard to get a better one.
My favourite are these as this individual was one of the first to appear on the Isle of Wight this year,24th April at Wheelers Bay just a short walk along the coast from Ventnor.it was a lovely warm sunny day just right for these beauties.

I'm not sure if I can say where I took my favourite photo of Glanville Fritillary - it was on the mainland UK, not Sand Point or the release site at Wrecclesham but somewhere else...
When I did find them at this undisclosed site they semed to behave like their coastal habitat - they'd come and go almost like the tides.

For my money the most attractive under wing of all the fritillaries

I have to agree. It was a real treat to be able to see this species at Wrecclesham on 25th May (whatever the rights and wrongs of that are!).

Here are a couple from there, which I keep going back to. Sitting immobile on a flowering head of plantain, they effectively disappear at a distance. Another example of excellent camoflage.

This is my favourite picture, its not anywhere as good as the photo`s above. But the poor thing looks in shock having seen me, and seems to be saying," what the hell is that".

I've still to see Glanville Fritillaries in this country, but I made up for this by seeing plenty in Cevennes (France) at the end of May. This one isn't the best photo I got but it was different due to the Glanville taking shelter during cloud on one of the many Broom Bushes. I had trouble at the start of the week when there were also a lot of Provincal Fritillaries about, but by the end of the week I was a lot quicker at ID'ing both.

I was in the middle of planning trips to either Bonchurch IOW or Sand Point when news of the Wrecclesham site broke, so on 19th May, I went down to see what all the fuss was about. The first sight that greeted me was Pete Eeles and I later to met Mark Colvin :D

Lots of fresh Glanvilles to choose from, so a good day all round :D
