This is a great site! The pictures are often so amazing and the stories in personal diaries so enthusiastic.

The butterflies are my love since chilhood. Especially those early stages of their development.

Greetings from Croatia! :)

Welcome! We look forward to some Croatian butterflies next season (or some early stages over the winter). Perhaps a personal diary...

Indeed. Croatia is an area of Europe that I imagine would be very interesting from a butterflying perspective.

Keep on posting!

Thank you all! :)

I'll try to open a personal diary in the spring next year or maybe earlier :? .

Generally, we have the same well-known butterflies. :D

Excellent. We'll look forward to that.

Incidentally, you may wish to 'sell' your country to the enthusiasts on here as Croatia is not a major travel destination but by all accounts is blessed with a superb summer climate and a fair degree of interesting landscapes (many of which are at elevation).

Are there any areas which are well known for being good for a large range of butterfly species?

Almost any place has its specific group of butterflies. You can't make a mistake. Across country there are many various habitats. But the richest spots are, of course, protected areas such as national parks, for example Plitvice Lakes, Risnjak, etc.

We have about 2500 species of Lepidoptera. 180 of them are butterflies. 7 are endemic.

Welcome to absolutely the best butterfly website on the planet, Dean :)

Although I'm definitely biased, the dedicated membership is just awesome. Welcome to the group :)

Cheers,

- Pete

I look forward to your butterfly reports. I nearly had a holiday in Croatia but it's a long story :?

I'd definitely be interested in going there. It's relatively unexplored (from a western European perspective); it has more reliable weather in summer than many of its rival nations and it ISN'T in the Euro, meaning that it's not about to become bankrupt!

Thank you Pete and Rosalyn.

Rosalyn, there is always next year :). My plan is to visit Butterfly World Project once when it will be completely finished :).

David M, soon (probably) Croatia will be a part of EU and our economy is also in a very bad stage.
