Hi all,
I visited Arnside Knott today and took a few photos of the site itself. When I got home and looked at them, it struck me how useful these could be to potential visitors. So - should such photos be included in the UK Butterflies website? I think I know the answer already. But before I request photos of locations you visit, please reply! Examples below.
Cheers,
- Pete

Yes Pete I think its a great idea, especially photo's of the Entrances and of locations of specific species (like where you found those Purple Hairstreaks) etc.
Here is a couple of photos from Arnside, no good for reference but nice to share.
Here is a shot from the top of the Knott:
And a shot of me at the Knott:
It was a wonderful day!

Great pics all, i have never seen a scotch argus before, so thats another for my list. I always try to imagine what the people look like - when on the forum.

Just a thought...what about introducing a new section to the website, specifically devoted to sites? I'm thinking in terms of something that would run parallel with the species details on the home page (rather than a forum), where contributors could write in detail about a site with which they are familiar, and include photos and maps.

Good idea. A couple of pragmatic additions:
1. I think that site information should be added on the "grid square" page where the site is mentioned.
2. Similarly, we could allow observations for each species also.
However ...
Given the amount of SPAM posts the forum gets, I'd have to implement some controls (e.g. you have to login before posting).
I'll have a think about this as winter approaches
Cheers,
