Help Req: Fritillaries in Austria

Post by kevling »

Hello All,

The following Frits were seen during August in Ehrwald (in the shadows of the Zugspitze mountain on the Austrian/German border). Any help with them would be very much appreciated.

Kind Regards
Kevin

Number 4 looks very much like High Brown (and number 2 as well, though the image isn't quite as revealing).

I'm totally flummoxed by picture '1'. Silvery outers transposed on a Weaver-like backdrop.

Come in Guy!

My votes would be:

1) Titania's
2) High Brown
3) Weaver's
4) High Brown

But I'm quite often wrong....!

Cheers

I'm tending to go with Lee on these

1. Has spots close to the basal triangular shapes which are quite dense giving as Guy describes the chess pawn shape.

3. Is similar to 1 but has lense dense triangles with spots slightly further away. However, I initially considered this to be a worn Tit Frit.

2. and 4. look to have a slight concave back edge to the forewing indicating High Brown Frit. If not High Brown then Niobe. The spotting along the forewing isn't straight enough for Dark Green. Are these the same insect as they appear to be on the same flower but photographed from different angles.
Cheers Paul
