Has anyone on here tried photographing lightning? How did it go?

funnily enough i have tried, managed to get a backlit cloud but that was all. mind you neither me nor the storm were in ideal places. also it was only last night i figured out how get the aperture open for longer than 8 seconds. i really should read the manual. but still always good to watch a good storm. i was only experimenting and still don't know if i was doing what i should have been. i did find a link to a great website, i'll see if i can find it again. i will say that i remember automatic triggers are used

Thanks
I have looked at one website and they suggest a 10 second shutter. They also recommend that you don't sit on the roof while you are doing it.
Now all I need is a storm!
