This is a splendid site to take the family with stunning views over the Somerset Levels and the Severn Estuary beyond. But it is supposed to be a site for small blue, and sadly, today it wasn't. I did see common and holly blue, silver washed fritillary, brown argus (that I kept examining - is that a small blue, nah...), small tortoiseshell (haven't seen many of these this year), clouded yellow plus the usual browns. And because it was largely overcast the SWF weren't buzzing and twitching for a change and I got a half tidy couple of shots. Shame they're past their best.
It's a steep climb to the top but there didn't seem to be much at further than 100 yards beyond the treeline anyway.
On the A38 going south from Bristol, go through the lights at Langford. Go 200 yards and take a left up a small lane. There's a signpost marking the turning. At the end of the lane is parking for about 6 cars. Beat the picnic lunchtime crowd and you'll be ok.
