it's one of the grass moths, a worn Chrysoteuchia culmella for me but i'm not experienced on the "micros"

Thanks. I did wonder if it might be a Grass veneer?

Definitiely not a snout. I'd agree that Chrysoteuchia culmella (Garden Grass-veneer) is a good possibility.

There are very few books that cover the micros and even fewer that show them other than as pinned specimens. The one that does is "British Moths and Butterflies" by Chris Manley. There's a good photo of the Grass-veneer on p.53 but there are several other similar grass moths and you'll need a specialist to separate them!

Thanks Mike. Until I can get my hands on a reasonably priced, but good, Moth guide I'll record this as a Grass Moth. I've looked on the Uk Moth site ( http://ukmoths.org.uk/index.php ). The problem is that there are hundreds of pictures to trawl through, and with so many species and sub-groups id is not easy :?

I also think it is Chrysoteuchia culmella. If you want a good guide to this group there's one here (fourth one down):
