Skipper or moth?

Hi.
My name's Bob and this is my first year of trying to get out and find butterflies. This morning I saw several of these, but I'm not sure what it is. At first I thought it may be a moth, but it could be a skipper perhaps. I saw them in a wheat field meadow margin in Hertfordshire. Any help with the ID would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Bob - and welcome!

This is a male Large Skipper (butterfly).

Cheers,

- Pete

Pete, thanks for taking the time to reply.

That's another one I can add to my list!

I see from your photostream that you also do birds. In UK there are only around 58 regular butterfly species, so why not set yourself the challenge of getting them all! You can go back to birds in the winter!
