RE a previous post about getting out early.

I got to one of may fav locations at 6.20am
I soon started spotting common blues in the grass.
I was able to pick the grass the butterfly was sitting on and hold it up while I took a some photos.

Lovely shot.

I especially like the finger :)

Seriously - I've done this so many times myself it's not funny; you get home and have the best shot you've ever take. And then find *THE FINGER*!!!

Of course, this can be cropped out in this case!

And definitely worth getting up early for.

Cheers,

- Pete

I left the finger in it, for now at least, to show that I was holding it up in the air.
The butterflies definitely seem to be less bothered, or more likely, less able to do anything when I got there so early.
It was a good tip someone mention in one of the previous post that I read. It may have been you that said it Pete. I am not sure now.

Have you noticed that the common blues hold on to the grass stems with there heads down in the mornings. The butteries almost look like small flower heads, with the row of orange dots at the top, like the petals of a flower.

I actually went out early to look around some of the oak trees in the area hoping to find a purple hairstreak. Didn't see a single one.

Super detail Dave. As for cropping out the finger, it might be better to clone it out to so as keep a bit of picture in front of the butterfly.

Thanks guy, form your comments.
Cloning may be the answer.
