Silver studds at prees heath

Post by GOLDENORFE »

went to prees heath this morning, very windy across the old airfield site!
only saw about 60, it has been too cold for them to emerge properly yet! [ only another 1000 or so to emerge yet :) ]
found a few emerging with ants as late as 11am - 1 pm presumably because it was warming up a little!
virtually all males seen, only a couple of females so far. all in perfect condition!
all shots had to cut a stem and hold in left hand to keep steady, holding approx 2-3 ft off ground to get clean background shooting single handed.

went to whixall moss on way back and saw 2 early large heaths :D

Excellent stuff!

If the weather allows it, I intend to check out both these sites next week.

I spent a good couple of hours today trying to get some shots and got nothing anywhere near as good as those. They are simply beautiful!
