Getting biger photos onto the site?

Post by Wurzel »

I've noticed that some people have got larger photos uploaded to their personal diaries or the monthly sightings page. I asked Zonda how he got them, and so have downloaded Picasa for dumping my photos in but that only allows me to upload them to the picasa web album. Then I get lost and don't know where to go next... :? :?:

Does anyone have any advice or any easier ways of getting those cool looking bigger images for my personal diary posts?

Cheers

You can use the Img tag to display images stored on the web directly in a post. They will appear in their original size, which should not be bigger than 800 pixels across or they risk being awkwardly cropped in most browsers.

Navigate to the web location of your image and copy its URL.

In the post, click on 'Img' and paste the URL of your image between the opening and closing tags (the cursor goes there automatically).

PS - Pages with lots of large pictures take a long time to load on slow browsers or when using 3G or E.

Exactly - which is why the UKB mechanism implements thumbnails that you have to click. So while I could remove this (so all images retain their original size automatically, when posted on UKB), it will result in very slow download times for some pages.

Personally, I upload mine to Photobucket and when the pictures are safely in my online album I merely click on the [img] tag (one of four that Photobucket provides for each photo) and paste the link into my post. I then 'Preview' the shot to make sure it doesn't look too hideous and if it seems ok I then post the image.
