Difference between male and female HBF?

Thanks for you help with the upper wing spot on HBF vs DGF.

Does anyone know how to differentiate between male and female HBF (either from above or below) please??

I have heard of the term sex brand but an not sure what that is. Actually, I will now try googling that term but might get some 'interesting' results!

Pete,

It does help but I cannot see the pictures of the females 1, 2 + 3.

Sorry to be a pain but I cannot make out the sex brands on the upper wings of the fritillaries. I know where they are on skippers and on the Wall so I guess across the forewing?

Would it be possible to give me the links for the female shots in the other thread for comparison.

I did google and got lots of unrelated hits!!

I can see that image. Wonder if reason I cannot see other link is something to do with my firewall.

That is *really* helpful - many thanks.

Can I guess that top left is a DGF, top right HBF
and bottom one is SWF?
