Dragonfly ID

Post by A_T »

Hi can anyone ID this dragonfly - seen today on Fenn's Moss on the Shropshire/Wales border? I've looked through my Brooks and Lewington but can't see anything to match.

Could it be a female or immature male white-faced darter? The face doesn't look particularly startling white but my own photos are all of adult males and this could be a teneral individual. I can't see what else it could be. It is far too early to be a young male black darter, and it doesn't look right for this to me either.

EDIT : There's a very similar immature male white-faced darter illustrated here:

Thanks yes that looks like it could be it. Certainly the right place for them - but I never considered the White-faced darter I thought it was too early in the year.
