Dusting Off my Gear for 2011!

Over time, my camera body, lens casing and lens hood have picked up scuffs, dirt, whatever. Sending them crashing to the deck on Martin Down didn't help.

Just wondering what folks use to get these back to (as close to) their original condition, if that's possible?

Cheers,

- Pete

Not sure it can be done, might be worth searching the web.

I'm always surprised when I do a trade in at LCE, that they always comment on how good the condition of my gear is.
Apart from like last week, when my gear got soaked by a freak wave, I don't usually clean my equipment much. Regularly trading in equipment is obviously going to help keep you gear looking shinny and new,........... cuz it will be shinny and new. :D But some of my lenses are quite old, and they still look immaculate. I still have my old 10D, now converted for infrared, and that old dinosaur don't look too bad. All I ever do is clean the glass when it needs it, and keep all my gear either in a zipped sealed camera bag, or in the protective case they came in.

Just to close the loop. Aside from the usual rocket blower and lens cloth treatment, I gave all my gear a "once over" with some wetwipes (actually, it took about an hour!) and it's done the trick. Everything looks like new again! I just love high-tech solutions :)

Cheers,

I sent my main butterfly lens away to Nikon for a service, clean, and a new Silent Wave autofocus motor (it was squeaking), before Christmas. £350 plus,   but i hope to make it work this season, and seasons thereafter. Where did you get those wet wipes?

They're not just any old wet wipes, they're ... :( ... actually I dunno where they came from; this does sound like a marketing opportunity: "Digital SLR body and lens cleaning kit. Normally retails for 50p. Yours for only £9.99"
