Upgrading my camera body

I am looking to upgrade from my canon 500D. I was thinking of getting the 550D as it has better movie mode features which I would like since I like to shoot wildlife videos and my hand-held HD video camera packed in recently. However I saw the 600D and wondered if I should wait and get it instead? I am only looking for the body as I already have a few lenses. Currently trying to sell my 500D to get some money towards new body. I still have my 400D so not stuck without a camera in the mean time. Can anyone help? I don't really mind much bout the 600Ds video snapshot feature as I can just edit my videos on computer anyway.

Hi Dave, I would consider moving from the 500D to the 550D or 600D an update rather than an upgrade. The 550D is the successor of the 500D, and the new 600D, likewise should be replacing the 550D. Canon usually have a slight overlap when a model is replaced, but obviously they produced to way many 500Ds.

If I were you, I would be looking at the much more powerful mid-range model, the 60D, only another £90 more than the 600D, but far more camera.

That's interesting Gary. I too am thinking of upgrading my 400D (yes, I'm still using my first camera)

I may well go for a mid-range model if the that is the price difference.

Cheers
Denise

Hi Denise,

I think if your going from a 400D, which was dropped in 2007, to a 600D, baring in mind there has been the 450D, 500D, and 550D, in between, then I would say the 600D would be an upgrade. I know that equipment weight was always an issue with you Denise, so you may want to consider that a 60D would be 200g or so heavier than the 600D.

Didn't think of the 60D but I have seen results from 50D and it looked quite good, may be a better option for me, was wanting to move to a mid range camera like that but didn't have a movie mode, but now the 60D does (which I didn't think of looking at) may well do that job, but thats only one part. If thats the price then it may well be worth the change.

THE 60D has already reduced in price since it came out just befor x mas, so would be a better option, especially as you will pay top price for new model.
it is slightly bigger than the 400-600 series, but smaller than the old 50d. taking alot of features from the 7d.
