You could have knocked me down with a feather when Simon Mayo devoted 10 minutes of his Radio 2 Drivetime show tonight to butterflies.
Yes, Matthew Oates from the National Trust was the guest and he was allowed to describe in detail why butterflies are so fascinating as well as do the 'conservation' bit too.
Mr Oates told how the Purple Emperor was his favourite species and gave listeners reasons why (rare, elusive, quixotic behaviour, etc). He also waxed lyrical about butterflies representing freedom, health, etc. It was quite uplifting.
Did anyone else catch it?
