Aston Rowant - unidentified Hairstreak

This morning I was at Aston Rowant in the Chilterns. On the south side of the reserve, near the car park, and along the path of the disused road I saw two butterflies fly up from the Brambles into the canopy of the Ash Tree above. It was clear that they were Hairsreaks of some sort by the way they flew, just not sure what. I waited 15 minutes and eventually one flew up. It flew right in front of my face and the colour was distinctly brown, but it didn't land and disappeared into the distance. It wasn't a Purple Hairstreak, the colour was too brown, and there were no Oak's nearby. So the question is whether it was a Brown or White Letter Hairstreak? And if so, has anyone else seen either at Aston Rowant before?
