Italy - The Dolomite Mountains (Fassa Valley)

Hi All

I haven’t been able to get out as much this year as I would have hoped but anyway….

I have recently come back from a Naturetrek holiday to the Fassa Valley in Italy in the Dolomite Mountains, mainly for butterflies, but also taking in the birdlife, moths and wild flowers. It was an excellent trip and we logged over 80 different butterflies.

Just out of interest, what did you have that Boloria down as? I would say the colours suggest napaea, but it does look small compared to that harebell...

When Paul, Roger and Nick visited me earlier this year I was a bit embarrassed by my uncertainty with many males of pales/napaea and it is clear I've got to do a little work there! However, the confusing form palustris doesn't fly in the Dolomites so you should have been able to nail everything...
