Was going in search of one today on the Dorset downs. Never seen one before,,, and it's a dull day, so what are my chances?

Chances are high Zonda, depending upon where you are going of course.

They are easy to spot when at roost and can be easily flushed up even on a dull day. If the sun does peek through they will immediately bask with wings fully open facing the sun.
