Holly Blue ?

Post by JohnR »

The great thing about starting to watch butterflies is that every one is a new one!
Is this little fellow a Holly Blue?

It most certainly is, and a lovely little thing too. Silvery-white underneath, and no orange spots distinguish it from Common Blues.

I think the female Holly Blue is the prettiest Blue found in the UK. I saw a few this afternoon, but I could only photograph the underside.

Under what conditions do Holly Blues open their wings? Strong sunshine? Late afternoon?
