That's Purple Tansy. A big hit with all insects in my garden, bees go mad for it.

Cheers for that input Deano,,,, oops, i mean Eris. Yes,,, i looked it up, it's native to California and the west coast of America. Purple Tansy insects love it.

I am really puzzling over this little flower. I have seen before but have forgotten its name.

It’s clearly a pea flower of some sort but grows on a grass like stem with no signs whatsoever of tendrils or other pea like trefoil leaves.
I have seen them growing in grass about 20 cms tall. The flower is solitary and TINY being no more than 8 millimetres across. The colour is striking (doesn’t show very accurately in the picture) being a geranium or tulip red.

I think it's Grass Vetchling (Lathyrus nissolia) and am finding lots on my local site. All of mine are red-purple in colour but my book says that they can also be crimson. No matter how many times I see one,I always stop to look, because they are so delicate and surprising. I understand that it is a declining species.
