I've been through the list of Butterflies, Larva/etc and I still can't identify this one. The nearest seems to be the Small Tortoise Shell, of course it could be a moth!!!!!!!!! Anyone Know? Goldie M

Grass feeder larva .... and water sipper ... apparently.... :) Attractive moths... strongly sexually dimorphic.

That larva looks near fully grown ...

Found just about everywhere when I was a lad back in the 1950s. Long time since I've seen the moth which was once a common sight near my house...

Goldie is appropriate ... considering the moth's colouring..

The hairs of the Drinker Moth caterpillar are irritant, so it would not be a good idea to stroke, cuddle etc your new pal.
