eddie ... very few observers specialise in the smaller moths. The late Jack Newton of Tetbury in Gloucestershire years ago tried to stimulate me into giving them more attention.... his experience of the smaller and very small British Moths was extensive and impressive. When he attended a mothing night using MV lamp arranged by another friend and Glos Moth man, he was able to identify just about every small and micro moths which turned up at the sheet. I myself struggled to ID some of the larger moths.... :)

Sad to say, very few observers are able to ID these smaller moths today ~ they are a challenge and because of their size and lack of widespread interest, I suspect there are still a good number of species to be discovered here in the UK and added to the list.

Viewing them using a powerful hand lens, some of these small moths are as beautiful as any butterfly ~ there was a time when I could appreciate that without spectacles.

Nothing lasts forever.... ;)
