Hi all.
Could someone please confirm these as a Brown Argus for me please. I've never seen one with a blueish sheen before. Is this normal?
Many thanks,
Deano.

Hi Deano - definitely Brown Argus, given away by the position of the spots on the underside hindwing - where you'll see a pair that almost form a figure of eight on the leading edge (these are spaced further apart in the Common Blue).

From the species description: "Unlike most other "blues", the Brown Argus has no blue scales on its upperside, both sexes being primarily brown in colour as its common name suggests, although the butterfly does exhibit a blue sheen when at certain angles to the light".

Cheers,

- Pete

Deano,

Also, if you notice, the length and shape of the abdomen shows that this is a male, which means it must be a Brown Argus by default, because this rules out it being a female of any of the other blues.

Cheers,

Vince
