Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone knows any good sites for all 3 of these species in Scotland (at the same time perhaps??)

I am visiting in 2nd week of July and need to tick these off my list! Is Glen Nevis any good?

Cheers,

Mark.

Mark,
I have sent you a PM which I hope helps with Mountain Ringlet. You don't say where you staying but Large Heath is seen at Ben Lawers and other sites around Fort William. If you don't mind the walk up Ben Lawers itself you will see Mountain Ringlet and Large Heath soon after leaving the visitor centre, but note that the Mountain Ringlet here only seems to fly when it is sunny and above 17-18 degrees and the climb can be hard going. The views from high up are stunning. The Large Heaths I have seen in Scotland have been at the Bridge of Grudie and North of Grantown. It is fairly widespread in Scotland north of Fort William so I don't think this one will present too much of a challenge. I have yet to see Scotch Argus (never been at the right time) so can't comment.

Many thanks for this Dave, a great help. I should at least be able to tick off Mountain Ringlet & Large Heath at the same time, I am planning to visit during the second week of July so hopefully prime time!

On a separate note I wonder if you (or anyone else for that matter!) could tell me which is the best site to visit for Black Hairstreak using public transport?? I have looked at Glapthorn Cow Pasture and it appears the closet I can get (on a bus) is Oundle and walk from there for approx a mile? Just wondered if there were any more accessible sites. No problem using train/bus/walk. I will be travelling from Dorset.

Any help once again greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Mark.
