Peacock Pupa

Post by Wayne »

Wondering if anyone can help...

I found a Peacock caterpillar wandering about in a picnic site and adopted it.

He turned into a pupa within a couple of days, now I'm wondering how long before he emerges?

Also, will he emerge in the morning?

Thanks in advance!!

Peacock pupa will emerge usually within three weeks dependant on temperature. Don't stand them in sunlight, even indoors. Spray them very lightly with tepid water every other day. Make sure they have something to grip onto when they emerge, a rough surface preferably and make sure they have room to expand their wings.

They can emerge at anytime during daylight hours. If you are not at home during the day, keep the pupa in a darkened room (close the curtains) if it emerges when your not present it will be unlikely to fly in darkened conditions and therefore is not likely to damage itself.

Enjoy the experience.
