common blue

hi only just been attracted to butterfly photography which i find facinating ,one qeustion common blue butterfly took lots of shots through the summer but the size of the butterfly seem to get smaller as the summer went

Hi Dave,

The size of butterflies varies for lots of reasons, including conditions during the larval stage. Blues quite often produce smaller summer generations from caterpillars that have fed up fast and sometimes pupated early because of desiccated host plants &c. I wasn't in the UK to see that happen in 2009 but it does often happen out here in CH.
