Does anyone know the effect of an extender e.g. 1.4x on the IS? Will it impact negatively on it. Or is that a way of getting the extra mm?

The Sigma 150mm F/2.8 Macro will take a x1.4 converter, but not a x2, and the Sigma 105mm F/2.8 Macro won't take either. So if the new Canon takes a x1.4 converter, it will add 40mm and become a 140mm F/4. With other lenses attaching a converter doesn't to my knowledge, but I'm willing to be corrected, effect the IS, so I doubt the IS would be effected with this lens. BUT I was reading that the new 7D, ( my next camera ) knows when it has a Macro lens attached and does something very spectacular, but I can't remember what it was, something to do with getting a diffused background I think. So similar question to yours Simon, will the 7D know it has a Macro fitted, if you are using a converter.

Is this for real, or are you pulling legs again? How does it know what you are snapping? The Canon macros are pretty decent medium telephoto lenses, so you wouldn't always want to diffuse the background. So presumably this "feature" must be something done in the software rather than the hardware, which begs the question isn't it then better to do it yourself. Otherwise, you end up with the camera saving an image file that has been (almost certainly) irreversibly manipulated in a way that you may not actually think optimal - ie. isn't it going to be like in-camera smoothening.

Not pulling your leg Simon ( by the way, the card we made from your Heath Frit image, was the best seller at the weekend, I'll pop one in with one of your calendars ). I did read something but damned if I can find it now, it may only of been something to do with how the AF works when you attach a macro, and then use backward and forward motion. Not going to help me much as I use a tripod, and rarely use AF for macro.

I'm worried about all these multi-functions. All i want is a good still pic camera. I'm not into movie making. This is a worrying trend. I'm looking at the Nikons, and i see them turning into Hollywood.

I think it was Nikon that was first to add a movie function. Don't fret Zonda, just because its there, it doesn't mean its compulsory to use it.
