I wouldn't gamble my XXXX on it...but I could have sworn I saw an orange tip in Dorking today.

Hi Danny - since we do have the younger generation on these forums, I've censored your post :)

As for 2nd-brood Orange-tips ... these have been known to occur (take a look at the species page), and this is normally the result of a very early emergence that results in another generation later in the year. However, I'm sure there must be other factors at play (other than early emergence) - such as there being an intermittent cold spell that provides a "false winter".

Cheers,

- Pete

Ah well, Censored on UK Butterflies. Reminds me of being told off on the UK Leps mailing list...and subsequently unsubscribing. At least you could have left the first letter and the last letter..otherwise folk will think I've said something worse....I can think of worse things to say...I won't go into details....

Pete----
Well done on your censhorship of Danny's posting.
I read it before the censhorship, and was disturbed, having recently encouraged very young family members,(totally computer-literate, despite their tender years),whose interest in butterflies I have been fostering, to follow this excellent site.
To Danny I say----sorry, time you looked " outside the box", and modified your "barrack-room" phraseology away from banal humour, particularly on such a universally-used site.
I will trade "carnal" jokes with you anytime--and I'm pretty sure I would make you blush----but ,please, not here,on this amazing, refreshing, and very-high-standard site.
Once again Pete,well-done, and above all, thankyou,
Ray.

 Watch out, Danny, you'll get told off for blasphemy next.

Anyone remember the sketch from a Life of Brian with John Cleese and the stoning?

Well, i can see Pete's point, and boundaries are boundaries. Cross them once, and the next time someone may cross them significantly. It might seem a trivial thing, but escalation is the enemy here. :) I for one, wont hold anything against Danny for making the slip. :D

I guess I'm the only one who thought that a 2nd brood Orange-tip was quite interesting :D

I haven't seen another and a week has parsed. I guess this orange tip is looking fruitlessly about the lanes of Surrey and feeling a bit cold and lonely. What will happen to it? Will it:

1) Find a lady Orange tip.
2) Die a batchelor (oops there I go again..I meant to say *********)
3) Hibernate in a shed and be first in the queue next Spring.

I suppose if there is an accidental Lady Orange tip out there he'll sniff her out with all the pherenomes (sp?) she exudes (sp?)...might be worth taking a closer look at those small whites that are about and checking that they're lady orange tips.

I found the original subject matter of this post interesting and as I'm not a million miles away from Surrey I've been keeping my eyes peeled too. :D
