I snapped this today at Hazelbury Common near Box. I'm pretty certain it's an adonis blue. Image

Yep - definitely Adonis. The black bands are visible in the white fringes, which is the giveaway.

Cheers,

hi
Hazelbury Common is a good site for the adonis blue but they are more abundant there later in the year along with the chalkhill blue.Another good site not too far away is Morgans Hill.

I haven't visited this site before, and it might be a place to look at in the next few weeks.

Looking at the OS map would I be right to guess that the common sits on top of the west portal of Box tunnel?

It's next to Hazelbury Manor. There's parking by the Chapel Plaister a short walk away. The common is nice for orchids too.

I went looking for second brood adonis blue today at Hazelbury and saw three very tatty individuals after nearly three hours searching. Was I early or late?
A reasonable number of chalkhills still there though.
