Got a useful tip from Andrew Middleton.

This is the easiest time of year to find Elm (White-letter Hairstreak foodplant). It is in flower at present and quite distinctive. I have to admit that I had never previously noticed them but once you get your eye in, they are much easier to find.

The leaves apparently come out after the flowers; I could only find leaves today in the sheltered parts of the tree.

Hi Jack,

I too have been looking at elms recently. Here are some Sussex locations I have noted which might be worth anyone having a look at when the time is right for WLH.

Arundel (by the water at Swanbourne Lake): TQ017079

Falmer: a few trees overhanging the footpath: TQ348080
+ another at TQ346079 at the footpath corner.

If I get the chance then I'll be having a look myself

Has anyone else got any elm locations noted which need checking?
