Moth identity requested please

Can anyone identify this moth that I noticed on a window today please?

that'll be early thorn selenia dentaria. its a first generation individual, ive attached a second generation pic .

Yes, I noticed that too. That's when it can sometimes be confusing trying to tell butterflies from moths when you first start out!

Yeah, sometimes that can be a little confusing, but if you notice the antennae they are either feathery or thin in moths, where butterflies have clubbed antennae and skippers have curved ones sometimes. The male moths have feathery antennae to detect the scent of females and the females have thin antennae as they don't need to atract males, the males find them.
