Northern Cyprus

I am going to Northern Cyprus in mid-April this year. I am thinking of buying Christodoulos Makris' book 'Butterflies of Cyprus'. Has anyone used this in the field? What other field guides are recommended for this area? I am a birder who is becoming more and more interested in butterflies.

I have been looking at Eddie Johns' website on Cyprus butterflies. Using either Internet explorer or Firefox text is overlaid by other text on the pages. Has anyone else had this problem?

Many thanks for any help/advice offered.

Regards

Roy

The site works perfectly for me, using IE 7 - and it seems an excellent site, too.

Perhaps your screen resolution is insufficient. If you have a low resolution setting, try increasing it.

Thanks Guy I'll give it a try. However I have never had this problem with other sites.

Sorry then!! :( Maybe one of the techno-experts on UK Butts can help - I'm more of a butterfly man. The only other thing I can suggest is updating all software, like flash, java &c.

I've been happily planning my Easter trip since your post - a most enjoyable thing to do with the snow falling heavily outside the window, as it has done since I woke up this morning!

I am planning a trip to N.Cyprus in April, this was when I encountered the problem. The snow here in Essex has now disappeared - it was quite a novelty! Thanks for trying to help. Have a good holiday.

Best wishes

Hi Roy
I have 'Butterflies of Cyprus' by Makris but haven't used it in the field - it measures 11" x 9" and weighs 4lbs!! It is a fine reference book but not a field guide!

Hi Alex

Thanks for the information.

It may be of interest; I think I have found why Eddie John's excellent site on Cyprus butterflies doesn't run correctly on my computer running Vista. It runs perfectly on my wife's computer which runs XP. Hopefully one of my computer-literate sons will be able to solve, what appears to me, to be a Vista related problem.

Regards

Are you using Internet Explorer on both machines and, if you do, which versions?

Yes and IE7 on both. It doesn't run correctly on my Vista machine using IE7 or Firefox.

Just for the record, I have Vista 64 and Firefox and have no problem accessing the site:http://www.grayling.dircon.co.uk/ which is what I assume you're trying to get to.

I have Vista Home Basic, Version 6(Build 6001: Service pack 1). http://www.grayling.dircon.co.uk/ does not run correctly on either IE7 or Firefox on this computer.
As I have said before it runs perfectly on my wife's computer running XP Professional.

I have downloaded Google Chrome recently on my computer running Vista. Eddie John's excellent web site runs perfectly in Google Chrome.
