A single Speckled Wood flying in Mangotsfield (that I saw) today.
Plus one Red Admiral at lunch time.

This afternoon I saw two red admirals and a comma, also several darters

Nothing here this month yet except a dead speckled wood I came across. BUt the weather has been a little warmer since snow a short while ago, but I doubt I'll be seeing much except maybe a few of the moths you find in winter.

i glimpsed a peacock this afternoon

i saw a red admiral today when on the postround plus i think a small white caterpiller climbing a front door, some nastershums were near by excuse spelling!

oh and the small white caterpiller at the top of the door today!

Saw a Comma soaking up the sun on a tree stump today, while we were down the forest.

A single Red Admiral Butterfly arose from the Pixie Path to Mill Hill.

5 - 6 November 2008
No butterflies recorded over both days.

3 November 2008
Over the muddy outskirts of Shoreham as far north as Cuckoo's Corner on the west side of the river, there were no butterflies recorded.

2 November 2008
After the continual heavy rain of the previous day, no butterflies were recorded around the allotments of Shoreham, Buckingham Park, the Pixie Path or Mill Hill.

I spotted a single red admiral flying through the trees in the local reserve today in sunny conditions (11/11/08). It circled a few times investigating ivy then meandered lazily southwards. No pictures unfortunately.

12 November 2008
A Red Admiral Butterfly fluttered over the twitten between Gordon Avenue and Nicolson Drive in Shoreham next to Hamm Road Allotments. It came as a great surprise to me to see a large yellow Brimstone Butterfly fly over the top meadow (north of the upper car park) on Mill Hill. It flew strongly in the direction of New Erringham. This was the first Brimstone Butterfly recorded in the month of November on these Nature Notes pages. Five minutes later a Speckled Wood Butterfly fluttered amongst the long grass south of the Reservoir on Mill Hill. Two more Red Admirals were seen rising from the vegetation next to the the Pixie Path.

Not exactly butterflies but as close as I am likely to get at the moment; I found more brown hairstreak eggs but this time on the the blackthorn I planted in a mixed hedge as whips last winter. This plant is only a couple of feet high but it has five eggs on. Hurrah!

An egg is as much a butterfly as is the larva and pupa ... in my book.

Otherwise my 3 sons are not quite human beings yet. Hmmm. Perhaps you have a point

Hehe, the same could apply to my girls!

My dog is a human being. And she's only 7.

The eggs seem to be disappearing. (predation by birds?) I thought I better get a few pics quick even though conditions aren't ideal today (grey and drizzly). I am glad I marked some of the branches with sandwich bag ties otherwise I would have thought I am going mad but I know that they were more there a few weeks ago.

I havent been on the site for a while but as I spotted a lone Red Admiral in our orchard today and it seemed so late in the year to see a butterfly I thought I would report it.


Ohhh edited to say it was near Petworth West Sussex
