Simply an everyday unpro image of a not so pristine Comma butterfly seen today at Foulshaw Moss on the Lanc's/Cumbria border.

I regret I cannot comply with requests for photoghraphic details on shutter speed and many other technical matters regarding the picture, save to say it was taken with a very inexpensive Canon Powershot A300 digital camera with which I have achieved many near excellent results - not all of which are butterfly images - over the months I have used the equipment.

Nice pic. After recommendation by Rogerdodge, I installed a free Exif viewer that provides me with the tech info you lack. This (if its working correctly) suggests that the image was taken on 19 dec 2008 (you might want to check cameras date setting)

A300, Centre weighted average metering, no flash, f3.6, 1/160 sec, focal length 5mm.

A useful tool for when tech info is missing, although photos uploaded to galleries and certain digital enhancemetns seem to remove this valuable info.

Impressed with your Exif technology which apart from anything else has shown me the date on the camera is 'way out' indicating that I have achieved a quite remarkable butterfly record in mid-winter.

....More to the point, you would have had to have been onboard the TARDIS as it was taken 4 months in the future - unless of course this is another of Canons optional extras? I''ll check my setup to see if I can take pictures in the futrue too - I'm desperate to get a photo of any darn butterfly so a trip into a warm, sunny morning in 2009 is much needed - in search of the Purple Emporer.

Turned into something quite amusing my pic of the worn Comma. You was much more 'on the ball' than I was regarding the camera date which I have now rectified. Yes, taking photographs of/in the future and winter sightings at that.

By the way, I have never thought of the website as anything but 'friendly' in my short membership and many thanks again for your interest in replying to my post. Hope I'm not breaking any rules regarding 'idle chatter' on the UK Butterflies website.

I like your Comma photo very much, and it doesn't matter what camera you have as long as your happy with your own photo's. My Kodak, I'm sure some people think its a hopeless camera but I like it and I know other folks on this web site have compact camera's. Keep up with your photo's, very nice that Comma.

Nice pic, and I agree with Shirley, its not what camera you have, its what it does for you, if it gets the shots the way you want them to be, then thats alright.

I don't want to forget names so thanks to 'everyone' who passed a kindly word about the Comma image in particuler with reference to 'using' cheap everyday cameras. I have always held the opinion....put 'any' camera in the right hands and you will get a result.

You have all inspired me to contribute another image in a new thread (they get more attention) and thanks again everyone.
