Some more Frits.

Post by Paul »

Firstly, a rather unusually marked Frit I decided was a SPBF in the Pyrenees-Orientales....

Then, comparing what I am sure were Lesser Marbled Frits this year with what I had said were the same last year... last year's were obviously NOT... :? ??? also SPBF, but I recall this being a slightly over medium sized Frit ( all the same specimen)... so any thoughts????

Your second fritillary is surely dia... That was my instinctive reaction based on jizz from the upperside and although the underside is difficult to judge for colour it does seem to be the right pattern and shape.

The first I equally instinctively call pearl-bordered. It just doesn't look like small pearl-bordered!

I'm unclear as to when this second insect was taken. Is it from last year?

Yes, last year, French Alps.. sorry, should have said.. the underside confused me... the first one I put as SPBF because of the forewing S2 spots being unevenly spaced, but it's a little odd anyway isn't it !! Happy to call it PBF
