It's a lovely day for October.

Not a sniff of a single butterfly out there today.

It's depressing isn't it? that warm spell seems so long ago now.

This morning I realised I hadn't entered anything yet for the August competition.
I thought I would have a browse through this month's photos for a competition winner.
There weren't any.
I don't mean that there weren't any competition winners - I mean there weren't any photographs - full stop.
I haven't taken a single butterfly photograph in 12 days!!!!!
It is really p*****g me off!!!!

Much the same over here. :( I didn't see any butterflies today except for a few Arran browns and Scotch arguses, which don't care about the weather. But I did come home from my morning dog walk with a bagful of ceps, saffron milk caps, bay boletes, Sarcodon imbricatum (don't know what that one is in English) and hedgehog mushrooms, all of which are now in my tummy.

Every cloud has a silver lining...

Don't gloat for too long, Rosy R! Having been kicked out of my present house I've chosen a new one the same distance away from work (5km) but 250m lower down the mountain. Since I have to cycle into school twice a day, so I can walk the dog at lunchtime, that means I shall be doing 20km a day including 500m uphill elevation as from November. The mushroom fat will burn off in no time!!

I've thoroughly vetted the new place and it has dryads in the garden and woodland browns a short walk away. In the past I've seen purple emperors there too. So Guy will be a happy puppy.

Interestingly there was a ground frost in some places this morning. How low temperatures can butterflies survive during the summer months at night?
