Well, back from Pyrenees Orientales, with 78 species seen, 26 of those new to me... might have to alter those figures though, as I'm not great at ID'ing... any alternative thoughts on these gladly & humbly considered

Hi Paul,
Fantastic pictures! I'm amazed at how fresh the
triaria looks - this is an early species (this year I found it on 13th April) and is usually on its last legs in the Val by mid July. Were you very high up?
Are you sure the brassy ringlet is not
cassioides, which also flies there? This is
rondui, with a large, tapered (broken in this case) orange area on the forewing and the eyespots fused into one:
This is cassioides from the Pyrenees:
Just a thought!
I also find your
gorgone different from the ones I see. Normally the hindwing spots are in a broad band, not narrowly ringed:
To me your butterfly looks like a rather dark
oeme (which flies with
gorgone).

Hi,
Happy to concede to your experience on both counts.... I think the brassy tricked me by its rather bland uns. hindwing, and the darkness of the oeme encouraged me to claim another species.....

... nice haul though..

.. wait for the rest!!!!!
We were at 1700m for the triaria, then up to 2100m for some of the others.

Guy......
(or anyone else for that matter if they have an opinion)..
I've been looking at the oeme again... I have another photo which may support Common Brassy more as an identity... what do you think of the uns, oblique though it is.??
![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)
I think it possibly excludes oeme... couldn't be seen on the other shot

Whoops! Yes, that's a common brassy ringlet!!
Sorry to have misled you before. But I was right, it isn't Gavarnie, wasn't I!!

Couldn't be seen on the shot I posted before so with info available you still get top marks!!!. I should have checked what I had better... looks so obvious now... happy nevertheless, 'cos it doubles my quota of Brassys
