Have not seen that much recient, but what do you think of these three pics I got in past few days?

small tortoiseshell I got today in my neighbours garden. These are becoming my favourite butterfly now as I hardly ever see that many anymore:

I love the colours and composition of the tortoiseshell pic, Dave! It must be a fresh one, cos that blue border is pristine.

Nice behavioural shots of the large white too. If I had to offer criticism I'd suggest you take more care focusing on the eye of the butterfly when side on, and that you keep the wings in a parallel plane to the sensor so the wings are sharp tip to tip!

Keep going mate!!

Thanks Chris. For the tortoiseshell, I was at my neighbours getting some hop leaves to feed my commas that I am breeding and happened to notice two feeding on yellow daisy plants she had, but had no camera. I ran home got it, and only one left. It flew up and a swallow just missed it. It landed and I got a few shots, that being the best.

And large white. I was in garden and had to take shot fast and having a 105mm its not so easy to get close enough. I'll keep trying though. Thanks for tips about the eyes, will keep that in mind in future.

Hi Dave,

I loved the Small Tortoiseshell photo. Really nice. I have yet to get one in my garden. I've only seen one this year!

Thanks for the advice Chris. I know that I've probably been told it many times, but you struck a chord with me. I don't have so much of a problem with small butterflies but the bigger ones have been a bit more of a challenge. I put your advice into action this morning on a Brimstone and this is what I got.

Ok, the composition and background are pants, but the Brimstone, (I think) is spot on.
Thanks a lot.

Cheers
Denise
