Species Distributions

Hi all,

Just to let you know that Richard Fox at Butterfly Conservation has kindly provided me with the 70,000+ records representing species distribution data (at 10k resolution) that is used in "The State of Butterflies in Britain and Ireland" (the update to the "Millenium Atlas"). This data is now used on all species distribution maps (the previous set were all "hand drawn" and, as a result, innacurate!). I'd like to thank Richard for making this data available, since it's normally reserved for scientific establishments!

The "unique" provided by the UK Butterflies website is combining the species distribution provided by BC, with the subspecies distribution described in Adrian Riley's excellent book "British and Irish Butterflies". A good example of the use of this combination can be seen at: http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/distribu ... e=Grayling

Just get used to the yellow blobs being the sites in the UK Butterflies database. Enjoy!

Cheers,

- Pete
