Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone out there has seen and photographed any Painted Lady this year, I would love to see some photos from anyone who has been lucky enough to do so. I have Painted Lady withdrawal , none at all here. :(
Its 11oC here ,and raining, and a howling northerley has chased the butterflies underground...autumnal...indeed.
Anyway Painted Lady pleeeeeeese........anyone, put me out of my misery.
Here is one from the beautiful summer of 2006.....just a memory.
Cheers IAC.

Hello IAC
Sorry I cannot oblige with a photo of this beautiful species, but I was only thinking today that I fear no Painted Ladies are coming here this year.Today's weather here in Suffolk is sunshine and showers, and although it's warmer than where you are,it's still only about 16 degrees. Not exactly summery is it!
Let's hope we both see some of these stunners soon!
Regards
Deano

Thankyou guys...it does seem like a stark Painted lady year. I am always hoping for the weather to improve Deano, I know you have had your fair share of rain down there...surely it can only get better.

Pete, thats a cracking photo....on Lavender too, that is the way it was in 2006 here, 2 Painted lady on the Lavender in my garden from late July till the first frosts.

Thanks Shirley, I think they are one very photogenic butterfly, and summer just aint the same without em. I know they are only migrants, however, where would we be without Swallows and Swifts....they just make a summer for me.

Thanks Martin, that photo, like Petes photo , says it all..pure summer....beautiful colour combinations.

Thanks Matsukaze, I do see on Butterfly Conservation Painted Lady survey map, that they are around..but probably as you suggest windswept and scattered.

Be vigilant people......they are out there.....somewhere :)
Cheers, IAC.

Apols IAC - I didn't compliment you on your photo. I think the blue sky as the backdrop, and the positioning on the flowerhead, is just beautiful!

Cheers,

- Pete

Hi all,
Cheers Pete, took this photo with my old compact Nikon 8800, there were so many Painted Lady in 2006 you honestly could not fail.

Thanks for reply roundwood123, I would love to visit Pembrokeshire one day, it sounds like a great area.

Gruditch !!!! :D ..Incredible stuff....just what the doctor ordered, I am just a wee bit envious, but , well done. I have read your blog , you have had a very good weekend.

Cheers IAC.

I had a Painted Lady trying to get in to the house through a window today IAC in North Yorkshire, so they're on their way north! Last year, my gf and I were walking to the pub and witnessed a "drop" of Painted Ladies in the village... there must have been 50-60 of them roosting in one tree... I'd never seen this before and have never heard of them travelling in groups... I'm keeping my eyes (& camera) peeled this year for the same phenomena, but todays visitor was the first I've seen.

Hi all,
FINALLY !!! ......... 1 Painted Lady, 1km south of Lintlaw, Berwickshire.....Chris you were very accurate in your prediction, maybe this is a move north.....the PL was in excellent condition, feeding on creeping thistle heads with Ringlets. Very warm day here, breezy though. The only negative to this sighting is........no camera...no photo....seen while working, however great to see the first of the season. Remember what they say......1 Painted Lady does not make a summer :D
Cheers all IAC.

I had my first painted Lady yesterday here in Norfolk, just outside Norwich.
It was a lovely fresh looking specimen but all alone!
Today is wet & cloudy so not much chance of spotting it today!

Hi IAC

I'm a little late seeing this thread of yours and I found it moments after posting news of my first on 25 July which you can read under '2008 First'.

I hope you like the image attached to the post.

Here is the second one, the first one I posted on sightings was a terrible 'sight' it was. Things have improved, to-day I found this beauty resting on my bark path, I've never seen two in one year ever. May be a third sometime.
