accommodate. The impact on the local environment will be hugely
detrimental. Green belt legislation was created to protect this
country from such urban sprawl. This must be upheld before the
whole country sinks under a mass of concrete. Stop this
development now."

Further to this, the council's submission to HM Government has been turned down in favour of a 25% higher housing count requirement. This will not just fragment the green belt, it'll destroy it. Small mercies I suppose that SGC have objected to this higher number.
If anyone hasn't signed this petition and would like to do so, it will stay active until the end of this year.

There's a local action group against this proposal now, with the local MP, Roger Berry, supporting it. At a meeting with the government today, rather than accept the folly of this proposal, the government are insisting on even more housing, over 100,000 for the Bristol area. It's madness. I only hope that the incoming administration will see sense after the next election.

Been on the planet longer than most on this enthusiasts' site. I now refer to it as the former green and pleasant. In my time I have become hardened at the many fine habitats I've seen destroyed in my lifetime, such is the level of incessant destruction.. Indeed, I am not blameless and no doubt all or most here are too. I have played a small part ~ the house I live in was built in 1971 in prime farmland pastureland and hedgerows which was rich in both insect and bird life....
