I found this Common Blue resting on a flower & it's wings were still all curled up.It was a very pleasant butterfly to photograph coz it so still, lol.
I'm pretty happy with the way this photo turned out.
Cheers

Looks like this individual didn't manage to pump its wings up adequately. Poor blighter!

Hello Pete,do butterflies usually pump up their wings completely as soon as they emerge from their chrysalis? Or do they sometimes fly off & do it on the nearest flower or sunny spot?
If this Common Blue hadn't been able to pump its wings up fully,do you think it'll have less chance of survival?
It did fly off once i'd finished photographing it.So hopefuly it'll be alright.

Hi John,

Yes - butterflies and moths pump their wings up completely as soon as they emerge from their chrysalis.

I suspect that this critter has less chance of survival but, if it can at least fly, this is a good sign!

Cheers for the info Pete.I thought that they would but i wasn't 100% sure.
Lets hope this little one survives.I always find myself rooting for the underdog, lol.
Definatly a good sign that it was able to fly.
