I live in the north west and very keen to see my first swallowtail. I was all set to go last weekend and aborted and then was to be this weekend (21 /22nd) but again looks to be another washout.

I understand peak time is mid June to first week in July then as smaller second brood in late Aug. Does anyone have any local knowledge that could help me re the position on the ground I understand where the sites are from my reading but don't want to risk expense of hotel /petrol and wasted weekend away if its a non starter.

Assuming the end of June is sunny is that still worth it or perhaps the August brood as a last resort?

I don't think there is a correct answer to your question.
Everybody has their own favorite site & people seem to see Swallowtails at various times in June/July.
Its generally not been a good year in Norfolk , the weather has been quite dire.
Having said that last weekend in Norwich it was raining but parts of the broads were quite sunny. It has been quite humid though so if you decide to visit make sure you bring your insect repellent & a good pair of mud proof boots!
The other problem is that every weather forcast says something different.
It really is like any butterfly spotting , it seems to be a game of chance
