Hello,

Its been a while since I visited the forum, moved house etc...

Anyhow, I was attending one of my usual favourite sites; Bishop Middleham Quarry, in Durham; when I come across a Speckled Wood, as you guys from up the north east know, Speckled Wood doesn't usually fly this far north :-)

Global Warming for you eh?

I photographed both a male and female and there was a few others I spotted on the wing.

I'll follow up with some photos when I get them uploaded etc. I do believe I got some photos of the Female underside which may be nice for the website!

In that order? Glad to see you have your priorities straight Wayne :D

Yeah - let us see the photos since I'm really curious about the "cline" from the Mediterranean, moving north, ranging from brown spots (Med) to white spots (northern Scotland) in "old speckly".
Cheers,

- Pete

Down here in Hampshire we so take Speckleds for granted! They are a lovely butterfly & seem to thrive well in many varying habitats. It is so exciting that they are moving north - makes butterfly watching so interesting. In an old book a friend has lent to me they were also known as Wood Argus.
