Hi all - just received these pics of the same larva from Eddie Barber. Any ideas on what they are? Thanks!
Cheers,
- Pete

Well, seeing as I've just bought "A guide to the caterpillars of the butterflies of Britain and Ireland" I'm going to stick my neck out and say Brimstone.

I pretty sure it's not a Brimstone larva - they're very "smooth" and have zero bumps
And they feed on Buckthorn
Possibly Angle Shades. See

Ah...I thought you knew and were testing us
(Therefor I assumed it was a butterfly)
There's no picture that can ever replace experience

Would agree with Angle Shades Pete as they are the first sign of butterfly or moth I see in my garden every year.
Usually they munch into the early growning buds of Clematis but I can find then on Mint,Buddlia as well, they are definitely not fussy eaters.
Heres a couple of shots of mine.
The second shot is not a clothes eater I just moved it there.
They do also change colour as you can see in the UK Moths photo.
Cheers

Certainly a moth larva - Angle shades Phlogophora meticulosa
They will breed through the year in mild conditions and are will eat many different foodplants.

Anyone know what this larva is?
Found on elm leaves today - some had made a tent of the leaves and were inside.
Some sort of geometrid moth?
