Just a bit confused, I was checking out Canons new entry DSLR, the 1000D yesterday. It was then advertised as "new entry model" with a rec retail of £499.00, only a pound less than the 400D. :? Now today, it has a rec retail of £649.00, which would make it £49 more than the new 450D, but comparing the models I can't see how its higher in the range than the 450D. :?:

I can't see how any better the 1000D is than the 450D either, I'd go for the 450D over that, cause that 1000D just looks like a slightly better 400D.

The Sony 18-70 kit lens is quite good when stopped down a bit, and I've had good results from mine when using it outdoors as a general walkaround lens. It's a bit soft at the edges and c/a can be a problem at the wide angle end of the zoom range, but I'd say it's better than the earlier Canon 18-55 non-IS version.
New Sony 'G' lenses are overpriced when compared to Canikon but the series 1 Minolta AF lenses are good quality and can be bought for decent prices on the second hand market.
